In tribute to Max Huber on the hundredth anniversary of his birth, Poltrona Frau has produced a duo of rugs based on drawings of unproduced works sketched by the Swiss artist and graphic designer in 1936 and 1947. 'Dizzy', based on a 1947 sketch, is notable for its application of lines and a distinct rhythm that recalls trailblazing jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie, and is a fitting homage to Huber who is said to have been deeply inspired and influenced by jazz music. Tangibly, the genre manifests here by way of a motif of small broken lines positioned both horizontally and vertically. Becoming longer and thinner as they reach the outer edges of the rug, the strokes call to mind a musical score, hence their different variants and dimensions. Handmade from 100% natural carded wool that is hand-spun on wooden looms using the Persian knot technique, 'Dizzy' features a saddle leather label hand-sewn on its back which is stamped with the Poltrona Frau logo, while two strips of fabric are additionally attached to the reverse to keep the corners rigid, and are embroidered with Max Huber's signature.
